I've often thought about getting a laminating machine but I wasn't sure if I would get enough use out of it to justify the cost. I've already got plenty of gadgets taking up space in my home, stored at the back of a cupboard because I thought they'd be useful. I've got a great blender but it's so much hassle to clean I don't use it. I've got a label printing machine that I really don't have any use for. So I hadn't splashed out on a laminating machine because I was concerned it would go the same way.

But when I found a laminating machine on sale in my local discount store, the price was right, and it came with some laminating pouches so I decided to take the buy. Well, I'm so glad I did. I hadn't realised just how much I would use it! This is one gadget that isn't going to end up cluttering up my cupboards!

So many uses

I seem to keep finding endless uses for the machine. I do a lot of baking and I have some tried and trusted recipes, the problem is, you pick up the recipe with buttery hands and it ends up with grease stains on. Not any more, I've simply popped the recipes in a laminating pouch and now they are wipe clean.

Because the laminating pouches can be wiped clean, you can also use them with a dry erase pen. I've used this as a handy checklist for our household chores. When the kids have done the washing up or put the trash out, then they can tick it off the list. Brilliant! You can also make wipe clean activity sheets that can be used repeatedly.

I've made personalised place mats for all the family too, which works out to be much cheaper than any that can be bought from the shops. You can also add that personal touch with a name and an image people will love. I did this at Christmas for our family and friends and everyone loved it.

One thing I've learnt

When I first ran out of lamination pouches I bought some very cheap replacements from a bargain store. This was a mistake. They crinkled up when I ran them through the lamination process, and there were often bubbles left on any sheets that made it through. I'm not using my lamination machine for professional purposes, but I still want my laminated items to look good. To remedy this I bought some better quality laminating pouches. I opted for the thicker pouches that are available. You can get them for a good price if you shop around, and you get excellent results. I was throwing away so many of the thinner ones that it ended up being a false economy to buy the cheaper pouches. So my one tip for you is to select the higher quality pouches.

If you've always wanted a laminating machine but haven't bought one yet, I hope I've inspired you to get one. The machines themselves are inexpensive and there are so many uses for lamination. You'll be surprised how much you end up using it.
